The Admired’s first single may be called Dream Pop Blues, but it arrived last year with a pop punk heft that speaks to the duo’s backstory. Bianca Davino and Max Jacobson, as the songwriting core of short-lived but beloved local outfit Grenade Jumper, collaborated with Dear Seattle and toured with Between You & Me. Now re-formed and refocused, name checking acts from Jane Remover and (Sandy) Alex G to Fugazi and Teenage Fanclub, The Admired were invited to bring their new sounds to The Dock off the back of a chorus that just won’t quit and a pop punk pedigree to match.
Opening the night by invitation of The Admired is west Sydney rapper Decaf, whose night-pseudoephedrine trip of a debut landed in November last year with collabs from Meanjin pluggnb queen Sidney Phillips and Sunday Washup alumnae Cherry Rype and Calliobel.
